FLORENCE, ITALY – Aftershocks continue to keep people on edge in the areas of central Italy devastated by a series of recent earthquakes, including Sunday’s 6.5-magnitude quake near Norcia.
The quakes, which started with one on August 24 that claimed almost 300 lives, have caused huge damage to many priceless artworks and Medieval churches and buildings and to the area’s economic fabric.
On Tuesday a 4.8-magntiude tremor again caused panic in parts of regions of Tuscany, Umbria, Marche and Lazio.
Norcia, for example, is famous for its fabulous cured meats and the local livestock farmers have been hit particularly hard. Around 22,000 people are homeless after Sunday’s quake.
