FLORENCE, ITALY – There are many visit options during the days that are traditionally dedicated to celebrations, here are the details.
January 1
Among the municipal museums you can visit: Palazzo Vecchio (2pm-7pm), the Torre di Arnolfo (2pm-5pm), the Church and Museum of Santa Maria Novella (1pm-5.30pm) and the Museo Novecento (2pm-7pm).
The exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi is open on January 1 too (10am-8pm) while Palazzo Medici Riccardi will be closed (exceptionally open on Wednesday 2).
Even the Casa di Dante will be open from 10am to 6pm (the museum will be open with the same hours every day from December 26 to January 6 and it will be closed on December 24 and 25), as well as the Area e Museo Archeologico di Fiesole and the Museo Bandini (10am-3pm) and various churches in the afternoon.
January 6
This year Three Kings Day falls on the first Sunday of the month, so state museums will be open for free for everybody. In Florence: the Uffizi, Galleria dell’Accademia, Palazzo Pitti with the Boboli Garden, Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Cappelle Medicee, Museo Archeologico, Palazzo Davanzati. You really will be spoilt for choice and most museums and monuments in Florence will be regularly open anyway (the Cathedral, the Crypt and Brunelleschi’s Dome will be closed).
Not to be missed is the wonderful Cavalcata dei Magi parade taking place through the streets of the city centre in the afternoon.
If you wish to get out of the city, the Museo Leonardiano di Vinci (and the birth house of Leonardo in Anchiano) are open both Christmas Day and January 1, from 3pm to 5.30pm.
