A new contemporary art exhibition will open in Livorno on Saturday, 9 May 2026 at 6 p.m., with the inauguration of “Echoes and Origin”, the first solo show by Dutch artist Larry Nederlof. The exhibition will be held at Galleria Extra Factory, an exhibition space located in Piazza della Repubblica, in the city centre of Livorno, a coastal city about 90 km west of Florence.
The show marks Nederlof’s debut in a solo exhibition and presents a selection of recent works exploring the relationship between past and present. The title refers to what remains over time — the “echoes” — and to the starting point of artistic and personal research — the “origin”.

A visual language between memory and material
The works on display are characterised by layered materials, essential marks and an expressive use of colour. Through these elements, the artist builds a visual path that invites viewers to reflect on both personal and collective memory.
The exhibition is conceived as an immersive experience, where each work functions as a point of contact between what is visible and what is perceived. The installation is designed to guide visitors through a sequence of visual connections, silences and references.

From business career to art studies in Florence
Larry Nederlof was born in Breda, in the Netherlands. After completing degrees in Law and Business Administration, he worked internationally in business before moving to France, where he pursued a career as a chef.
In 2019, he relocated to Florence to focus entirely on art studies. He now lives and works in Calambrone, a seaside area in the province of Pisa, where he continues to develop his artistic practice.
His work combines the study of classical painting traditions with a contemporary interpretation that includes elements of irony and experimentation. His research draws on techniques associated with artists such as Frederic Leighton, Rembrandt and Titian, reinterpreted through a modern perspective.
“Every brushstroke is a lesson. In recreating the luminous flesh of Lord Leighton’s ‘Psyche’, the dramatic chiaroscuro of the Rembrandt school tradition and the Venetian chromatic mastery of Titian, I am not simply copying; I am undertaking an apprenticeship,” declares Nederlof. “The works on display in the exhibition are the meeting point between past and present. By using the technical DNA inherited from the great masters, these works explore composition, modern identity, the play of light, the human form and portraiture. These works are my contribution to the ongoing history of figurative art, proof that the ‘old ways’ are not historical relics, but living and vital tools for capturing the spirit of our time.”
