More than 250 historic racing cars, including around 100 Formula One single-seaters, are expected at Mugello Circuit in Tuscany for the first Gran Premio Storico d’Italia, a new three-day event dedicated to the history of motor racing.
The event will run from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 October at the circuit in Scarperia e San Piero, around 30 kilometres north of Florence. Its programme includes 18 races across eight grids, as well as demonstrations, exhibitions and access to areas where spectators can see historic cars at close range.
The inaugural edition will place particular emphasis on Ferrari and the period from 1996 to 2006, when Michael Schumacher and the Italian team achieved one of the most successful runs in Formula One history.
Nine Ferraris from the Schumacher era
Nine Ferrari Formula One cars built between 1996 and 2006 are due to return to the track, ranging from the F310 to the 248 F1.
During those 11 seasons, Ferrari won six Constructors’ Championships, 87 Grands Prix and recorded 203 podium finishes. Schumacher won five consecutive Drivers’ Championships with Ferrari between 2000 and 2004.
The cars also document a period of major technical change in Formula One, from 3-litre naturally aspirated V10 engines to the 2.4-litre V8 formula introduced in 2006.
Former Ferrari drivers and test drivers scheduled to take part in the demonstrations include René Arnoux, Luca Badoer, Gerhard Berger, Andrea Bertolini, Giancarlo Fisichella, Antonio Giovinazzi, Eddie Irvine, Nicola Larini and Mika Salo.
Mugello has a particularly close connection with Ferrari. The company owns the circuit, which for years was also used extensively for Formula One testing.
18 races covering decades of motorsport
The weekend will extend well beyond the Ferrari demonstrations. Eight racing grids will cover more than half a century of motorsport, from pre-1966 Formula One cars to later generations of single-seaters and endurance prototypes.
Among the categories are the Historic Grand Prix Car Association for pre-1966 Formula One cars and Masters Racing Legends, covering Formula One machinery from 1966 to 1985.
Other cars will represent Formula 2, Formula 3, Formula Ford and Formula Junior, while the programme also includes more recent high-performance single-seaters and endurance racing cars.
The Gran Premio Storico d’Italia is organised by French historic-motorsport promoter HVM Racing and Mugello Circuit, in collaboration with Ferrari and under the auspices of the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI).
Tickets and access
The event runs from 2 to 4 October 2026 at Mugello Circuit in Scarperia e San Piero.
The circuit says spectators will have different ticket options covering outdoor viewing areas, the main grandstand and paddock access. Current prices on the official event page start at €25 for access to outdoor areas and €35 for tickets including the paddock, main grandstand and outdoor areas.
The circuit also advises visitors planning to arrive by car to reserve an internal parking space, as parking is not available immediately outside the venue.
