€800,000 Undeclared Cash Seized at Florence Airport

Over €800,000 in undeclared cash has been seized at Florence Airport following a series of inspections carried out between June and October 2025 by Italy’s Customs Agency and the Guardia di Finanza (Finance Police).

In total, more than 200 checks on arriving passengers revealed money movements worth over €1.5 million, leading to 44 violations and administrative fines amounting to nearly €60,000.

According to the Finance Police, the undeclared money was often concealed inside luggage or on passengers themselves. In one case, four travelers were found carrying almost €130,000 in cash and gold bars, hidden among personal belongings and divided between euros, dollars, pounds, and Swiss francs.

Another case involved an Italian resident in Madrid who arrived in Florence with 300 grams of gold in small bars—worth around €28,000—hidden in his trolley, along with €4,500 in cash. He was fined €6,700.

Authorities reminded travelers that any amount over €10,000 in cash or equivalent assets must be declared when entering or leaving the European Union.
