FLORENCE, ITALY – For the first time this year the traditional Florentine historical football will be broadcasted all over the world, even if the date has not yet been defined with certainty. Within this week the municipality of Florence will decide on the hypothesis of postponement to July or September.
The historic Florentine football is traditionally played in June and ends with the final match on June 24, the day of San Giovanni patron saint of Florence.
For the first time, the Municipality of Florence has put the TV rights up for sale. An Italian production company took the rights and the matches will be broadcasted live throughout Italy and all over the world. The matches will also be used to make films, documentaries and fiction.
“So, if it is not possible to bring the public to the field, those who will watched it from home will see historical football as they have never been seen before,” added historical football president Michele Pierguidi in the interview.
Will there be matches this year? “We still can’t be sure but we want to play, – explained Pierguidi – the municipal administration, the teams and the whole city want it. We also want to play to get back on the field after a year of Covid 19″.
Meanwhile, this week, Pierguidi underlined, “we will know if we will be able to play in June or if we will have to postpone the tournament later”. A hypotheses is that the matches will be postponed until July or alternatively in September.
“A protocol developed with Synlab” , Pierguidi specified, “guarantees that those who train and those who will play on the field will not have the virus”. “Precisely because in Calcio Storico there are no professionals but they are all volunteers, – he concluded – it is necessary to protect them as much as possible from the virus. This will be possible if the protocol is carefully respected”.
