FLORENCE, ITALY – A series of meningitis contractions continued in Tuscany: Tuesday March 29, 2016 a 58-year-old woman was taken into hospital in Empoli.
On March 21 a 38-year-old man was hospitalised in intensive care with meningitis C in the same hospital.
There have been four cases of meningitis type C in just over a month in the provinces of Florence and Pisa and 16 in the Tuscan region since the start of 2016. There have been four deaths due to the disease.
The local authorities activated the relevant procedures after the doctors examined the woman from Santa Croce sull’Arno at an emergency room and she is now in intensive care.
Tuscan authorities said that would vaccinate 1.5 million Tuscans against meningitis while denying there was a pandemic and calling for calm.
