Uffizi Gallery is in trouble for bad smells

Uffizi in trouble for bad smellsFLORENCE, ITALY – Bad odors in some of the rooms of the Uffizi Gallery: this is what the Unions indicate in a letter to the Superintendent Cristina Acidini. The discomfort is concerned, in particular, the Senese and Florentine Fourteenth century rooms and the International Gothic style rooms.

“The air quality in these areas is likely to undermine the dignity of the gallery,” wrote Unions, adding that they “will evaluate the opportunity to promote forms of mobilization of workers and information opportunities for users”.

In her letter of reply to the Unions, Cristina Acidini manifest the necessity “to arrive to a solution of the problem as soon as possible”, and informs that, in the meantime,”the direction of the Galleria ordered to adequately ventilate the rooms affected by opening windows, temporarily excluding them from the conditioning circuit, to mitigate the effects described above and avoid any form of injury to persons and property.”

The superintendent would also like to point out that “August 9th the direction of the Gallery had reported the incidents in question to the National Superintendence in order to put in place the necessary measures with the matter of urgency.” “We learn from colleagues of the Superintendent – concludes Acidini – that Monday September 10 will be done an intervention by crane and basket that, although not of a structural nature, will allow an effective solution to the problem.”
