Torre d’Arnolfo, 22,000 visitors in the first month

Arnolfo towerFLORENCE, ITALY – It’s a boom of visitors in the Tower of Arnolfo in Palazzo Vecchio: over 22 thousand people in a little more  than a month. The tower, 95 meters high, was open to the public for the first time since June 24, Midsummer Day, and will remain open until the entire month of September.

Attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, accompanied by a crenellated parapet walk, is the end of the first core of the Government Palace, built between the thirteenth and fourteenth century.

Inside the tower is located up a steep stone staircase of 218 steps leading to the summit. Approximately half  tour opens a small cell, the Alberghettino, where they were imprisoned in 1433 and in 1498 Old Cosimo Girolamo Savonarola.

During the summer (until Sept. 30) it will remain open daily from 9 to 21 (last accessed on Thursday is 1.30 pm). The climb is not allowed in case of rain and for children under 6 years. It remains recommended to visitors with difficulty motor, with heart disease, for asthmatics, who suffers from vertigo and claustrophobia. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
