FLORENCE, ITALY – On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, Firenze turismo unveils the romantic sides of the city with some places-to-be. Residents and tourists can visit the romantic places where Francesco I and Bianca Capello, Ugo Foscolo and Quirina Mocenni Magiotti, Gabriele D’Annunzio and Eleonora Duse, fell in love.
The first “love palce” is located in Oltrarno, via Maggio 26. At this address there is the Bianca Capello’s palace , renovated by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti. Here there was the most famous love story of the past, between Francesco I dei Medici and Bianca Cappello. In 1563, she came in the city where she won the admiration of many, and the Grand Duke Francesco fell in love with her. The Palazzo del Mondragone, located in Via dei Banchi, is the place where Francesco I and Bianca Cappello met during a reception, and fell in love.
The second “love place” is the hill of Bellosguardo, that saw the love of the poet Ugo Foscolo and Quirina Mocenni Magiotti. In the place where actually is Villa dell’Ombrellino the poet composed the poem “Le Grazie” (1813) dedicating to his love for her.
The third place is Settignano, set on a beautiful hillside overlooking Florence, where another poet, Gabriele D’Annunzio , who lived in Florence between 1989 and 1909, had an affair with the actress Eleonora Duse. Here he wrote Il Fuoco (The fire), a book published in 1900 with the authorization of Duse, in which he described their highly passionate relationship.
