Battle of Anghiari, a non-invasive research

The battle of Scannagallo by Giorgio Vasari“In the search for the lost fresco ‘The Battle of Anghiari’ by Leonardo da Vinci, I confirm the correctness of the Superintendency and Opificio delle Pietre Dure, which played a role in monitoring and technical assistance in the investigation initiated and carried out by engineer Maurizio Seracini of the University of San Diego, with the approval of the ministry.”  The superintendent of the Opificio, Cristina Acidini, is very clear about the controversial research.

In the past week by several parties had been raised controversy about the methods of the research, conducted on a wall of the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, behind which might lurk Leonardo’s masterpiece. As part of the research were in fact made some microscopic holes in the painting that occupies the same wall, ‘The Battle of Scannagallo’, by Giorgio Vasari. Against this system of investigation has been presented an appeal signed by dozens of experts and intellectuals, and a complaint to the prosecutor in Florence.

”The research engineer Seracini has concluded the first stage two weeks ago, with an endoscopic investigation with a tiny camera – continues Acidini -. This reasearch has not damaged in any point the Vasari’s painting. “

  1. I am familiar with Dr. Seracini’s work, and know that he has been preparing for more than 30 years, to come to this place, where he may uncover the lost mural by Leonardo Da Vinci. He is the utmost professional, and will do everything possible to uncover the mural, without damaging the outer painting by Vasari.

Dr. Seracini has devoted his life to bringing art masterpieces to their apogee of perfection and existence. It is a shame that anyone would criticize this brilliant and dedicated teacher/engineer/art historian, who is about to show the world that with his knowledge and dilligence, he has found a lost masterpiece by the world’s greatest artist–thought to be lost for 500 years! What an amazing achievement for our world!

Oh, and may I humbly point out that the correct title of Dr. Seracini’s university is: the University of California at San Diego, or UCSD. Another school in our area is titled “the University of San Diego”, but that is not the institution for which Dr. Seracini works.
