New bridge installed as Florence rail disruption continues until 30 July 2026

Train services through the Florence railway hub remain suspended until Wednesday morning, with replacement transport operating for passengers.

Train traffic will stop from late 26 July until 30 July as RFI installs a new railway overpass.

Passengers will be transferred by bus between Campo di Marte and Santa Maria Novella.

The new bridge links Bellariva and Albereta, improves cross-river connections and is dedicated to Georgofili victims Nadia and Caterina Nencioni.

Pressure drops and possible water cuts are expected from late Friday, May 15, to Sunday, May 17, 2026.

The €350,000 project strengthens flood protection in the Oltrarno area and opens the way for new public and cultural developments along the river.

The disruption will also affect services on Monday 13 April, when fewer trains than usual are expected to run.

The name received the most votes in a public online poll launched by the city’s mayor.

The structure linked to the tramway project was positioned on Friday morning. A social media poll to choose the name.

Construction had been halted in December after the discovery of well-preserved medieval city walls beneath the square.
