The Italian Pavillon at Expo2015MILAN, ITALY – The effect of Milan Expo on Italian tourism has brought 100 million euros more into the Italian economy as of August 2015 when compared with 2014, according to a study conducted by the Monza and Brianza Chamber of Commerce and presented at Expo’s Palazzo Italia.
The study was based on the economic impact of the increase in hotel bookings registered between May and August for tourists who stayed at least one night in the territories analysed.
According to the researchers, this demonstrates how a major event, well presented and structured like this world’s fair, is a concrete tourist attractor and an opportunity for widespread development.
The Expo effect generated 83 million euros for Milan, 3.3 million euros for the “Lakes area”, 1.8 million for Monza and Brianza, and 1.1 million for other main cities in Lombardy.
In the tourist areas of Rome, Florence, Venice, Salento, the Adriatic Riviera, and the Amalfi coast, the economic impact reached a total of 12 million euros, six million of which were in Venice alone. The study said hoteliers in Milan reported that in the four months that Expo has been open, August was the busiest month for tourism, with a 35.9% increase on the same period last year.
