FLORENCE, ITALY – Producers of Montepulciano wine, designated with Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) status, said that by 2020 they will create their wine with zero-carbon emissions.
Montepulciano producers said their district will be the first in Italy to certify their wine is made with zero net on the environment.
A special certificate attesting to the zero-emission status will be glued on to each wine bottle produced in the territory. The DOGC label provides a quality assurance for a variety of Italian food and wine products.
They say that will be achieved through such practices as reforestation, use of photovoltaic panels to harvest the sun’s rays, as well as production of energy from biomass-fired power plants.
