FLORENCE, ITALY – A large painting of Florentine art and architecture through the ages will be donated to the presidency of the United States of America to remember 500 years since the death of the Florentine navigator, Amerigo Vespucci. The painting, created by Paolo Frosecchi, is a sort of “collage painting” of the most famous Florentine monuments: the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistry, the Basilica of Santa Croce, the Michelangelo’s David, etc.
The “Committee for Amerigo Vespucci at His Home”, in collaboration with the Municipality of Florence, will send the work to the White House, as a tribute to the anniversary. “The gift aims to consolidate the friendship between the U.S. and Florence,” said Eugenio Giani, president of the city council of Florence and co-chair of the Committee.
