The captain Francesco Schettino is accused by prosecutors of having abandoned about 300 people, not only passengers of the cruise ship Costa Concordia. He has considered unable to provide for themselves during the disaster occurred during the night of January 13 in front of the Island of Giglio in Tuscany, Italy. The prosecution disputes that Schettino should have to take care of them as commander of the ship. This allegation is in addition to those culpable of multiple murder, shipwreck and abandon ship.
”I have seen a person so much tried by this affair, which did not give me the impression of being neither a coward nor a criminal, I have indeed seen a deeply troubled,”, told the attorney of Captain Schettino, lawyer Bruno Leporatti. Schettino is now under house arrest.
Five bodies yesterday were found inside Costa Concordia. Other six people have died after the cruise ship ran aground on the cost of Isola del Giglio, in Tuscany.
