Government warns of Concordia salvage delays
In a letter addressed to Costa Co-Chief Executives Pierluigi Foschi and Michael Thamm, as well as to the head of Italy’s civil protection agency, Franco Gabrielli, and to the president of the Tuscany Region, Enrico Rossi, Minister Corrado Clini said it was ”urgent” that a working program be developed for the last phase of the stranded ship’s removal and the recovery of the hull in ”an ideal location”.
Traditional pre-Christmas event at the Four Season
It’s time to open gates, at the Four Seasons Hotel, for a traditional pre-Christman event. It’s the 5th edition of the “Open Day”, dedicated to raise funds per “Istituto degli Innocenti” and its activities on behalf of children. On Sunday, December 16th, from 10 to 16, all florentines and tourists are invited to pass through the gates of Parco della Gherardesca, the city’s largest private garden and since 2008 part of the Four Seasons Hotel.
Michelangelo sculpture at the Year of Italian culture
Year of Italian culture in the U.S. opens in Washington. Italy’s foreign affairs minister will inaugurate The Year of Italian Culture in the United States event Wednesday with the loan of a Michelangelo sculpture to a major American gallery. Giulio Terzi will open the year-long event at Washington’s prestigious National Gallery of Art by unveiling the famous David-Apollo sculpture by Michelangelo.

First flakes of snow on Florence
The icy storm going through Italy reached Florence today. Flakes of snow fell in the city in the first morning. At the moment, no disruption to traffic are recorded. As a result of cold air coming from Greenland a white mantle had held the hills around the city during the night, the temperatures are currently below zero.
The marvelous Boboli garden in Florence
The Garden extends on the hill behind Palazzo Pitti and continues down towards Porta Romana. Thanks to landscaping work carried out over the years, this garden is today one of the biggest and most elegant Italian style gardens. Following the acquisition of Palazzo Pitti by Cosimo I de Medici and his wife Eleonora of Toledo who had decided to make it the official Grand-Ducal palace, work was started on the adjacent land.

Italians see bodyweight fall due to healthy eating
Italians are gradually seeing their body weight fall to more ‘normal’ levels due to more healthy eating habits, according to a study by the Nestle’ Observatory in conjunction with the clinical nutrition and dietetics association ADI.
Cimabue to return to Santa Croce
A painted crucifix by medieval master Cimabue is ready to be returned to Florence’s Santa Croce Basilica after it was damaged in the Great Flood of 1966. The painted crucifix, executed in 1280, came to heightened fame when muddy waters, which swelled the banks of the Arno and inundated the entire city, swept into the church and wiped most of the paint off.
