Kerry Kennedy returned to Florence on November 22nd 2012 to hold a press conference to explain an exciting new partnership between the Robert. F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights and the Teatro dell’Opera di Firenze. This marks the first time the RFK Center has collaborated with a theater.

Florence students to help hurricane Sandy victims
On November 7th 2012 Lion’s Fountain, along with a student travel group, Euroadventures, hosted a fundraiser to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, a terrible storm that recently devastated the east coast of the United States. New Jersey was hit particularly hard.
EU wins the Nobel prize, American students react
On Friday, October 12th 2012, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the esteemed Nobel Peace Prize to the European Union. It is interesting to see how American students reacted to the news. It is important to recall that President Barak Obama won the Noble Peace Prize in 2009. Students have been comparing the two, in an attempt to understand the logic behind the committee’s decision.
Luxuria: emulate Vespucci’s courage
Vladimir Luxuria expressed admiration for people that, like Vespucci, “risk their lives to explore what is unknown.” She advised students “cross the borders” of prejudice, specifically the “border of the division of men and women.” and work to accept things that are different. She specked to the students in Florence.
Il crocifisso del maestro di Figline was restored
Many flock from all over the world to visit the Basilica in Santa Croce to admire both the church itself, and the artwork inside. The famous “Il Cristo Crocifissio del Maestro di Figline” has finally returned to the church, after a long restoration project that began in 2009. The restoration could not have been a success without the help of the Friends of Florence Organization.

Edison Library to close, Apple to open in Florence
Piazza della Reppublica is one of the most famous in Florence. It exists at the heart of city, and is home to many prestigious local businesses. Florentines and tourists alike flock to piazza for its the historic cafes such as Café Gilli or Café Gubbie Rossi, and for the well known local establishments, such as the famous Libreria Edison.
Expo Rurale to learn more about Tuscany
Casine Park was full of life this past weekend as Tuscany’s “Expo Rurale” came to Florence. The park was filled with vendors, families, farm animals, an even a live cooking show, to help support Tuscany’s rural economy. This 3-day event helped to bring attention to the agricultural community in Tuscany.

On September 18th, 2012 Vogue’s world famous Fashion’s Night Out came to Florence, on its third and final stop of their fashion tour through Italy. The event visited both Milan and Rome earlier in the month.
