South Korean actor Gong Yoo will be the special guest of the 24th Florence Korea Film Fest, scheduled from March 19 to 28, 2026, at Cinema La Compagnia.
The festival will pay tribute to Gong Yoo with a public masterclass on 21 March and a retrospective featuring six films that span more than fifteen years of his career. The selection is designed to highlight the range of his work, from auteur cinema to mainstream productions and films addressing social issues.
Gong Yoo is one of the most internationally recognised figures of contemporary South Korean cinema and television. His roles have contributed to the global visibility of Korean storytelling, particularly through films and series that blend genre elements with social commentary.
He is best known for his starring roles in the television series Coffee Prince (2007), Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016–2017), the Netflix series Squid Game (2021–2025), and the films Silenced (2011), The Suspect (2013), Train to Busan (2016), and The Age of Shadows (2016).
The actor joins another previously announced guest, director Yeon Sang-ho, with whom he collaborated on the 2016 film Train to Busan. The two are expected to take part in festival events and discussions with the audience.
As in previous editions, the Florence Korea Film Fest will present a broad overview of recent South Korean cinema. The programme includes competitive sections such as Orizzonti Coreani, Korean Cinema Today, Corto, Corti! and Webtoon, alongside meetings with filmmakers, masterclasses and cultural talks aimed at both specialists and general audiences.
Founded and directed by Riccardo Gelli and co-directed by Chang Eun-young, the festival has become a long-running fixture in Florence’s cultural calendar, offering Italian and international audiences a focused look at trends and new voices in South Korean cinema.
