Florence welcomes the festive season with the return of the Florence Eye, the iconic Ferris wheel offering breathtaking views of the city from a height of 55 meters. Located in Piazzale Vittorio Veneto, the Florence Eye officially opened, with Mayor Sara Funaro leading the inaugural event.
The piazzale transforms into a hub of winter fun, featuring not only the Florence Eye but also a massive ice-skating rink covering over 1,400 square meters. These attractions, along with cultural events and market exhibitions, are set to draw locals and visitors alike. The Florence Eye will be open until March 31, while the ice rink will close on January 19.
Families can look forward to magical experiences like the Santa Claus Village and Natalia, where children can personally deliver their Christmas letters to Santa Claus. Historically associated with challenging times, Piazzale Vittorio Veneto is undergoing a revival, becoming a space that promotes community, celebration, and safety.
“This year, the Florence Eye and the ice rink will once again make Piazzale Vittorio Veneto a place of joy, social connection, and enchantment,” noted Jacopo Vicini, Florence’s economic development assessor. He also highlighted the upcoming redevelopment of the area, ensuring it becomes a high-quality public space, cherished by residents and tourists.
The Florence Eye has been a favorite attraction for families in recent years, and the city is committed to maintaining its presence. Efforts are underway to identify new, permanent locations for the Ferris wheel, balancing the needs of the city with its cultural heritage.
