FLORENCE, ITALY – Pope Francis will celebrate Mass before some 50,000 people in Florence’s Artemio Franchi stadium on November 10 at the close of his day in the Tuscan capital, organisers said Wednesday.
Entry to the stadium will be by free ticket only, but it will be possible to follow the Mass on big screens set up in the nearby Ridolfi stadium and in the city centre. The pope will be in Florence for the fifth national ecclesial convention running from November 9-13.
Pope Francis is slated to arrive in the city from Prato at 9.15 am local time and will head for the Baptistery of St. John, from where he will enter the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. During the course of the unofficial visit to Florence the pope will also pray before an image of the Virgin Mary in the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata and join regulars for a meal at a local Caritas Catholic charity canteen.
