The towns of Figline and Incisa Valdarno are applying for their two administrations to merge into one. Located south of Florence, the towns’ mayors filed formal requests with Tuscany’s regional governor, Enrico Rossi, to allow both towns to be managed under a single administration. Filing the requests, mayors Riccardo Nocentini and Fabrizio Giovannoni expect to reap administrative savings of up to 100,000 euro.

One day in Tuscany for Pope Benedict XVI

State of the Union, Barroso’s speech
Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the EU Commission, said he believes that through urgent commitment, positive results conducive to growth and development can be achieved. Barroso addressed the participants in the ‘State of the Union’ Conference in Florence, Italy, and added that economic growth demands three key-elements and namely fiscal consolidation, structural reforms and investments.

The State of the Union 2012 to take place in May
The 2012 edition of The State of the Union, organised by the European University Institute, is hosted in the Florence City Hall. The Conference takes place on 9-10 May.
