Visit Emilia Romagna and Marche at… Viva Vino LA

Emilia-RomagnaLOS ANGELES, USA – Wines from all 20 regions of Italy will be represented at Viva Vino LA. For Emilia Romagna there is La Macina, the winery located high on the hills about 1/2 hour outside Bologna, La Mancina specializes in the wines of Colli Bolognese – Pignoletto, Barbera. The wines is Barbera Frizzante Colli Bolognese 2009, the grapes is Barbera, tasting notes red cherry, tart and crisp, sapid/savory. Drink with friends on a hot day, with salumi and cheese.

For Emilia Romagna there are Domodimonti and other wineries. Domodimonti is a boutique winery located on the picturesque countryside of Montefiore dell’Aso in Le Marche, Italy. In 2010, Domodimonti’s new state-of-the-art winery, designed to generate the least amount of visual and ecological impact on the environment, was inaugurated. It is a testament to the continuous drive of producing Natural Wine. The wines: Deja V. Offida Passerina DOC 2010, grapes: Passerina 100%, tasting notes: The mouth is suave and gives the impression of residual sugar related to the special texture of the Passerina variety. Rich and silky with good persistence marked by the well ripened white fruit. Serve at 10°C with a mushroom risotto finished with Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and drizzled with extra virgin olive oil or a rabbit confit ravioli with a lemon beurre blanc. Li Coste Offida Pecorino DOC 2010, grapes: Pecorino 100%, tasting notes: Golden honey yellow. Elegant notes of flowers, hazelnut and mature fruits like bananas and peaches. Pecorino is a dry and fragrant wine with flavors of gooseberry, lychee and tangerine. Enjoy LiCoste as an aperitif, with light pasta and fish dishes or even at the end of your meal with the cheese course. Marche Rosato IGT 2010, grapes: Sangiovese 80%; Cabernet Sauvignon 20%, tasting notes: Intense salmon pink with light orangey highlights. Aromatic toasty notes with delicate touches of red berries and hawthorn. The attack on the palate is fairly lively but is softened by a very supple texture. Its generosity makes it a fleshy wine, a dinner wine which, served between 8 and 10°C, will pair nicely with a sesame-crusted grilled salmon or even a moderately spicy beef tartare. Picens, Marche Rosso IGT 2007, grapes: Montepulciano 40%; Sangiovese20%; Merlot 20%; Cab20%, tasting notes: Supple attack on the palate with a pleasing tannic structure. An ample yet elegant wine. Serve at 17°C with a grilled tuna steak drizzled with an ‘au jus’ sauce hinted with cinnamon or a lacquered loin of pork with Ras el Hanout. Montefiore: Sangiovese Marche IGT 2010, grapes: Sangiovese 100%, tasting notes: Based on fine tannins that are present but delicate, this is a generous and fairly fleshy wine that will deserve a stay in the carafe just before serving. Serve at 16°C with a veal scallopini topped with mozzarella cheese and a tomatobasil sauce or pan-fried salmon in a “marchand de vin” sauce. Il Messia: Marche Rosso IGT 2008, grapes: Montepulciano 60%; Merlot 40%, tasting notes: Deep ruby red. Aromatic, fine and complex. Lovely expression of blackberries, empyreumatic notes and anise. The tannins are silky and well enveloped. A powerful and fleshy wine that offers richness and beautiful complexity. It can easily age a few years. Let it sit in the carafe for one hour before serving at 18°C with a duck breast glazed with plum sauce or a loin of venison with a star anise glaze. Solo per the, Marche Rosso IGT 2007, grapes: Montepulciano 95%; Petit Verdot 5%, tasting notes: Deep ruby red. The subtle nose recalls red berry jam, wood, leather and dark chocolate.The attack on the palate is tannic and delicate. The wine is well structured on strong tannins but without any roughness. The long and persistent finale reminds us of the chocolaty, almost licorice accents. Let it sit in a carafe for a good hour before serving at 18°C with a grilled rib steak in a dark chocolate demi-glaze sauce. Tie Marche spumante IGT 2010, grapes: Sangiovese 100%, tasting notes: Harvested at cooler temperatures in order to retain freshness of flavour, this Sparkling Sangiovese is light straw with a youthful green hue. This fresh and floral sparkling wine is soft and round exhibiting intense tropical fruits.

Le Corte dei Farfensi: the company is located in thi small town of Moresco high above the north bank of the River Aso. The Aso valley extends from the river’s source in the heart of the Sibillini mountains, part of the Appennine chain, to the Adriatic beaches of Altidona, Pedaso and Campofilone. The landscape is particulary diverse expressive and ever changing, the result of 2000 years of work on nature’s tapestry by the hand of man. The Also valley has many unique characteristics, making it instantly recognizable and evocative. With influence: those who are fortunate enough visit the area, are costantly in awe and fascinated by it. From the mountains of the Sibilini to the Adriatic coast as far as the eye can see, there are series upon series of cultivated hills and woodland, dotted with medieval hilltop villages, towers, steeples and vineyards. Our vineyards currently extended over an area of about 60 hectares (70 acres). The grape varieties and they have been growth in the area for many years. We have tried to re-create similar vineyards to those that were worked in the area over 1000 ago. It is important to select the grape suited the terrain in which the vine it is to be planted in order to produce the best quality wine. Not forgetting experimentation by introducing other complementary varieties such as Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Merlot to give some examples. The principal growing systems chosen for the vines are the cordon and Guyot methods, these are combined with dense planting, 5000/6000 per hectare (2000/2500 plants per acre), are pruning and thinning is carried out by hand and the yields are around 5000 kg per hectare (2000 kg per acre). The way that the grapes are tended allows uniform ripening and harvesting is done entirely by hand in small baskets to avoid crushing the grapes. The wines: S. Iospeh Rosso piceno superior DOC, 13,5%; grapes: 50% Montepulciano; 50% Sangiovese, tasting notes: color hue is ruby red tending towards the red garnet. Bouquet is clean as well as complex with a great array of assertive fruity varietal aromas reminiscent of small black and red forest understory fruits such as blackberry, black cherry, black currant (cassis) and spicy aromas reminiscent of fine toasted woods, chocolate, tobacco, vanilla, goudron, coffee, cloves, etc. Frutiy flavors, full month-feel, round high concentration of noble tannins, great structure and long persisten finish. Regesto Falerio Pecorino DOC 13%, grapes: 100% Pecorino, tasting notes: Polished with a color hue reminiscent of straw-yellow. The bouquet is very pleasant with white flowers aromas and fruity aromas reminiscent of yellow fruits. The taste has persistent fruity flavors with pleasant minerality. Curtes Offida pecorino DOC 13%; grapes: 100% Pecorino, native variety, tasting notes: Color hue is equivalent to fresh hay with polish appearance. The bouquet is very pleasant with fruity aromas reminiscent of sage and nettle. The taste has persistent fruity flavors with a pleasant minerality. Ampor IGP Marche Pessina 12,5%, grapes: 80% Estate Montepulciano; 20% Syrah, tasting notes: polished with a color hue reminiscent of yellow gold. Clean bouquet with assertive varietal aromas reminiscent of white flower scents such as jasmin and honey suckle. Abate pietro Rosso Marche IGT 14%, grapes: 80% Estate Montepulciano; 20% Estate Syrah, tasting notes: Clean intense bouquet, with typical assertive and complex varietal aromas that showcase pleasant fruity, floral and spicy aromas reminiscent of red and black small ripe fruits, caramel and chocolate. Its flavor is fruity and warm, round with full mouth-fee; it is well balanced with a pleasant backbone due to its high soft noble tannin components and finishes long with elegant aftertaste. Floriger IGP Marche Rose’ Protected Geographical Indication 12%, grapes: Montepulciano; Sangiovese, tasting notes: Color with garnet bright reflex. Pleasant fragance of small flowers with rose’ canine smells, wild strawberry and pomegranate. Fresh and fruity to the taste with light spicy veins.
