Vino nobile, 34 companies will join the preview

Montepulciano (Chriss Wee) - CCFLORENCE, ITALY – Stronger than the snow, which had never fallen so abundant until the eve of the event, the “Vino Nobile di Montepulciano” preview is ready to offer its intense script. The event brings to the Renaissance town and surrounding area professionals and journalists. It will be staged from Saturday February, 18 to Monday, February 20 (from 11 am to 6 pm). Thousands of business professionals, restaurateurs and wine-stores will arrive in Montepulciano (Tuscany), while international press will have its highlight on Thursday 23.

In the picturesque location of the old Fort, opened last year after the restoration funded by the producers of Vino Nobile, there will be tasted two vintages of red Docg ready to be marketed: the 2009 and 2008 Reserve. Thirty-four companies will join the preview: each label will offer its range of wines (both Nobile and Rosso di Montepulciano Doc, other fruit of the Sangiovese grape variety). The event will involve the entire town, highlighting the deep connection between production of wine, fruit of old tradition, and Montepulciano.

In 2011 were sold 7.5 million bottles of Vino Nobile (-5% compared to 2010) and 2.5 million of Rosso di Montepulciano (-13%), because of financial and economic crisis, but its amount is low compared to other food & beverage items. The 39% was absorbed by Italian market while the remaining 61% has been preferred mainly by German consumers (45%), followed by Swiss and U.S. (15%). Expectations are for a harvest of high quality and in line with the tradition expressed by Vino Nobile. There will be an international guest, the german cartoonist Peter Gaymann, who will paint live a collection inspired to Vino Nobile of Montepulciano. (ma.ge.)
