Netflix Unveils Teaser for The Monster of Florence—A Chilling True Crime Series

Netflix Teases The Monster of Florence, a True Crime Series

Netflix has released the first official teaser for The Monster of Florence, a new true crime series exploring one of Italy’s most notorious and unsolved serial murder cases. The show, created by Italian filmmaker Stefano Sollima, will examine the chilling events that took place in and around Florence between 1968 and 1985.

A Case That Still Haunts Florence

The Monster of Florence case involved eight double murders, committed between 1968 and 1985, with victims always being couples seeking privacy in remote locations. The killings, marked by extreme brutality, sparked one of the longest and most complex criminal investigations in Italian history. Despite multiple arrests and trials over the years, the true identity of the killer—or killers—remains a mystery. The only clear forensic link between the crimes was the use of a .22-caliber Beretta handgun.

The murders occurred in the following years:

• 1968: The first known double homicide.

• 1974: A similar attack, marking the start of a pattern.

• 1981–1985: Six more double murders, all sharing the same brutal signature.

In a statement to Variety, Sollima described the case as “a mystery that marks our relationship with pain, fear, and silence.” He emphasized that the crimes—particularly the violence inflicted on young women—represent “a wound that has remained open for too long.”

A Four-Part True Crime Investigation

The Monster of Florence will be a four-episode limited series, set for a global premiere in fall 2025. Sollima, known for his work on Gomorrah and ZeroZeroZero, teams up with writer Leonardo Fasoli, cinematographer Paolo Carnera, and producers Lorenzo Mieli and Gina Gardini. The series will feature actors Lillina Bottone, Luigi Camillo, and Giacomo Fadda, though their roles have not yet been revealed.

Given Sollima’s reputation for gripping crime dramas, expectations for The Monster of Florence are high. The case has fascinated true crime enthusiasts for decades, and Netflix’s adaptation promises to delve deep into the unsettling details of the investigation.

With the first teaser now out, the countdown begins for one of the most anticipated true crime releases of 2025.
