Michelangelo's David

Galleria dell’Accademia also open on June, 2 for the Italian Republic Day

FLORENCE, ITALY – The Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence will be exceptionally open on Wednesday June 2, 2021, for the Republic Day. The entrance to the museum will be from 9 am to 6.45 pm (last entry, 30 minutes before closing time). Tickets and visiting hours must be booked online through the Gallery website.

The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze is best known as the home of Michelangelo’s sculpture David. It also has other sculptures by Michelangelo and a large collection of paintings by Florentine artists, mostly from the period 1300–1600, the Trecento to the Late Renaissance. It adjoins the Accademia di Belle Arti or academy of fine arts of Florence, but despite the name has no other connection with it.

The reopening of the Galleria dell’Accademia was on Thursday, May 6th, 2021, after the period of closure due to the COVID 19 emergency. The artworks from the Colosso room and the Plaster Cast Gallery, closed for renovation works, are temporally exposed in the other rooms of the ground floor.
