Italy Coast Guard deserves Nobel for life saving

ROME, ITALY – Italy’s Coast Guard deserves the Nobel Peace prize for saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of migrants, a Green Party spokesman suggested Friday.

The Coast Guard has saved the lives of as many as 460,000 people since 1990, said Greens spokesperson Angelo Bonelli. “In one week alone of April this year 10,000 people were rescued” he added.

“The Nobel prize ought to be assigned to the Italian Coast Guard who have been tirelessly fighting for decades for the most basic human right, the right to life, in the Mediterranean sea,” Bonelli said.
