From vineyard to cellar: the Museum of Wine

FLORENCE, ITALY – A permanent exhibition dedicated to the work cycle of vine and wine, with more than 500 objects , starting with some authentic Etruscan, Roman and medieval relics granted by the Archaeological Museum of Florence. It’s the “Museum of Wine” in Florence, first example of the entire Italian wine-system: located in a city with a strong vocation both in wine and museum, in its two rooms “WinEx” (synthesis of Wine Exposure) shows all the elements that lead from the vine to the bottle of wine, celebrating the strong heritage of territory’s knowledge. A unique opportunity to learn something more about the world of vineyard and winery: the first room – decorated with an Etruscan decanter, a “kantharos” (cup) and a pitcher – is dedicated to the relationship between man and the vineyard , with a collection of typical items of the working phases, while the second run through the transition from the must to wine.

It was Giuseppe Iuppa – fond of archeology, Etruscan and wine, as well as the owner of the wine bar Little David where the museum is – who put together the collection that makes up WinEx. “For a long time I have collected this material around Italy for personal pleasure – Iuppa says, with satisfaction – and last year I finally decided to select the most interesting specimens and sort them according to didactic criteria, so as to give an added value to Florentines and tourists. I wish the museum could become an attraction for visitors to see an important part of Italian wine”.

“Museum of Wine” is open daily from 10am to midnight (in conjunction with the schedules of the Little David), free entrance for customers in the wine bar .
