37 Tuscan athletes bound for the Olympics

FLORENCE, ITALY – 37 Tuscans athletes bound for the Olympics and Paralympics. The Tuscan team, the third in number of athletes qualified for Italy, after Lombardia and Lazio, was presented today by the regional sport and welfare councilor, Salvatore Allocca.

The Tuscany region has, in fact, published a brochure of 48 pages with tabs, profiles, PDA’s, calendar of events and biographies of all the athletes. “A publication that helps us to understand, to follow, to take part, Councillor Allocca said. Come to be protagonists of an Olympics or Paralympics is the culmination of an entire life dedicated to sport, a constant work and determination, will power a great quality and physical, athletic and human uncommon.”

Sports more represented is swimming, with six athletes, followed by boating with five. The sailor Alessandra Sensini and his sixth Olympics with four medals (1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze) collected in previous editions, the fencer Aldo Montano, the water-polo and judo fighter Elena Gigli Giulia Quintavalle have also already stuck his neck a gold medal, and four others (rowers Luca Agamennoni, Lorenzo Bertini and Lorenzo Carboncini, and the athlete in the hammer throw Nicola Vizzoni) are  gone up one or more times on the podium.

Equally qualified group of 7 Tuscan participate in the Paralympics: the fencer Matteo Betti (Siena); Marisa Nardelli (Sesto Fiorentino) in table tennis; Vittorio Arcieri Bartoli of Poggibonsi in archery; Sara Morganti of Castelnuovo Garfagnana in horse riding, Marco Innocenti of San Casciano Val di Pesa and Grosseto Giuseppe Polidori in tennis, and the Florentine Andrea Marcaccini in boating.
