FLORENCE, ITALY – It’s the day of “Benvenuto Brunello” (Welcome Brunello!) in Montalcino, the traditional meeting where producers officially show wines about to be launched on the market and advances of the just harvested ones. Welcome Brunello! start tomorrow February 24 to 27, in Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy.
This year the premiere will have 3 players for vintage wines that have received 5 stars, the top score obtained by the board that annually evaluates the goodness of the harvest.
“This year Benvenuto Brunello hosts a real star of national and international winery,” says the president of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino Ezio Rivella. “We believe that the results achieved last year in terms of turnover, up 10%, prove once again the strength of a region that has managed to re-ignite a positive economic cycle showing a great capacity for self-control.”
From an economic pointo fo view, Brunello recorded a turnover of 155 millions euros for manufacturing companies, an increase of more than 10% over the previous year (when it was 140 million euros).
About “superstar” vintages celebrated on this edition of Benvenuto Brunello,we can repeat what has already been pointed out by critics and producers. For 2007, all were in agreement that the harvest would give a structured and elegant wine with good acidity and polyphenols contained. This is thanks to grapes with high sugar content and ripeness of the phenolic components. For the 2006 and 2010, the critics agree: two of the best years ever. As regards the former, a Brunello di Montalcino 2006 won the 4th place overall in the world ranking of “Top 100” drawn up by the prestigious Us magazine “Wine Spectator”, as well as several other awards on the Italian guides. As regards the second, producers and experts share the view that the year 2010 has shown extraordinary features for Sangiovese, both in flavor profile is below that of compositional parameters, which – in addition to a high level of alcohol and in some cases, in some cases quite high – in a range of total polyphenols, anthocyanins and extract very high and very rarely found in this variety.
Among others, there is curiosity about the taste of Brunello Riserva 2006 that Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s “Prime Donne” presents with a new look and the personal touch of Francesce Valérie Lavigne. (ma.ge.)
