The “Battle of Anghiari” in the next issue of NatGeo

Nat Geo coverThe “Battle of Anghiari” is the cover story in the next issue of Nataional Geographic Italy. The search for Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Battle of Anghiari” conducted in the Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio is a project led by the National Geographic Society and UC San Diego’s Center of Interdisciplinary Science for Art, Architecture and Archaeology, in cooperation with the City of Florence.

Its central scene depicted four men riding raging war horses engaged in a battle for possession of a standard, at the Battle of Anghiari in 1440. In order to find the hidden fresco an endoscopica probe is used through the fresco of Giorgio Vasari “The Battle of Scannagallo”.

Since early 2007, the city council of Florence and the Italian Minister of Culture have given the green light for further investigation. The research is supported by City of Florence and National Geographic Society. The cover story of Nat Geo Italy is written by Marco Ferri and Photographs by Dave Yoder. Nat Geo magazine is available in Italian newstands from Monday, January 30.
