Florence airport, looking for a new runway

Florence airportPoliticians and technicians are working in order to study a new runway for the airport of Florence, a longer runway that affords possibility to land to a greater number of aircrafts. But the solution is still far.

Yesterday a summit has been in Rome between ENAC (Civil Aviation), ADF (society which manages the airport) and Regione Toscana. Present at the meeting the president of ENAC Vito Riggio, the governor of Regione Toscana Enrico Rossi, the President and the Ceo of ADF Vincenzo Manes and Biagio Marinò, the Central Director Infrastructures Airports of ENAC Alessandro Cardi, the president of Procedures of Flight of ENAV (Aviation agency) and Achille Granozio, Irpet adviser who, on assignment of Regione Toscana, has recently elaborated a new hypothesis for the realization of a runway with a different position.

Regione Toscana would want a new 2 chilometres oblique runway regarding the near freeway, while ENAC has expressed own preference for a runway parallel to the freeway. Because of these divergences ENAC has been engaged to estimate documents introduced from Granozio engineer integrated from the analyses of ENAV for the inherent part the flight procedures.

ENAC, within two months, will elaborate a detailed final document for the Board of Directors of the Agency, Regione Toscana and Ministry of Infrastructures with all the possible options of runways. Every track will be analyzed with technical appraisals and financial institutions. “The target is to find the best possible solution for the development in safety of the Airport of Florence, indispensable airport for the Tuscany airport pole”, said Vito Riggio, president of ENAC.
