Zubin Mehta inaugurated the 75th edition of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino proposing one of the masterpieces of the musical culture of Central Europe, the Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannsthal, is missing from Florence since 1989. Atalanta beat Fiorentina 2-0 this afternoon at the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo. Goals from German Denis in the 11th minute and Giacomo Bonaventura in the 51st gave the hosts all three points, while Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic had a second-half penalty saved by Andrea Consigli. The result means that Atalanta are mathematically safe, while Fiorentina’s fight to stay in Serie A continues.

Fresh out of their away win against AS Roma, Fiorentina have to contend with several key players’ injuries. Subbing for Cerci 9 minutes into the second half, Italian-Brazilian midfielder Amauri suffered an abductor tendon lesion. With a 3-week prognosis ahead of him, Amauri is therefore off the cards until season’s end. Placing their hopes in Amauri to avert relegation, Fiorentina also have to contend with Cerci’s injury.

Andy Holt has been named general manager of GE Energy’s Renewable Energy Services division. Holt, who is a 16-year veteran of the company, will lead GE’s wind and solar services segment.
