It was opened yesterday in New York a new section of ANPS, the National Association of Italian State Police. It ‘s the first based in the United States and the third outside of Italy, after Toronto and Melbourne. The ceremony was held in the Palais des Nations, at the presence of the Consul General of Italy in New York, Natalia Quintavalle.

Lost tourist’s sketches help to find her husband
A lost, elderly tourist afflicted by Alzheimer’s helped police locate her husband by sketching monuments that retraced the couple’s path through Florence on Monday. The tourist, a 70 year-old Dutch woman who suffered memory problems, had arrived in Florence with a tour group to visit the city.
MSC, crew meningitis cases confirmed
MSC Cruises confirm that the four MSC Orchestra crewmembers who landed in Livorno, Tuscany, yesterday have been diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. The four, one of whom diagnosed as being in critical condition, are currently in hospital. MSC Cruises and maritime authorities have agreed to offer passengers antibiotic profligacies. No other member of the crew has reported symptoms of the infection.
Columbus Day with Italian policemen special report
Some Italian policemen with their American colleagues celebrated the anniversary of Columbus Day. This twinning was renewed for the eighth consecutive year. Arrived from Florence, Rome, Genoa (the birthplace of Christopher Columbus), Naples, Arezzo, Pescara, Avellino and Enna the Italian policemen were invited to numerous events organized by the Italian-American communities of New Jersey, New York and Boston.
Bini Smaghi paid 50 euros for Renzi’s campaign
The Florence native and former European Central Bank Executive Board member Lorenzo Bini Smaghi paid 50 euros to fund Florence Mayor Matteo Renzi’s campaign for the leadership of Italy’s Democratic Party. Matteo Renzi aims to become the premier candidate in the general election of April.

Italian university students union UDU organised symbolic gatherings at several major Italian universities yesterday, in protest at what they describe as “the government’s total lack of interest in state universities.” Among others, meetings were held across the country, at Padua, Parma, Florence, L’Aquila and Palermo universities.
