The Handicrafts Trade Fair at the Fortezza da Basso

Fortezza da BassoFLORENCE, ITALY – Today, just Like Yesterday, the City of Beauty. In 1931 the dawn of the know-how. The Handicrafts Trade Fair has its roots in history. It was originally born as an extension of the Florence Corporations of Workers.

Following the war break-out, the Fair was forced to stop. After war, it opened again with a new and fresh international approach. The years of the economic boom encouraged the international character of the fair, which quickly became the centre of the attention in the world of high quality handicraft products.

Florence. The Angels with Golden Hands Meet at the Fortezza. Here you can discover the best creativity and inspiration of master craftsmen coming from every country in the world. This is where beauty originates – the cradle of arts and craft expertise.

In 2012 the City of Beauty. The International Handicrafts Trade Fair turns the Fortezza da Basso into a surprising city, where the handicraft ‘streets’ follow new and charming exhibiting itineraries, combining century-old craft expertise with the latest frontiers of innovation.

In the new exhibiting (April 21-29 at Fortezza da Basso) itineraries set up thanks to special installations and settings, the best of the arts and crafts of the various Italian regions will be on show. The Region of Tuscany will be the protagonist of the event with a large reserved area inside the Spadolini Pavilion.

Carefully selected traditional and innovating works will be on show, between originality and design, following an itinerary privileging productive traditions as well as the main territory attractions – local crafts, tourism, food & wine, landscape identities, and so on.

New geographical routes will be followed for the international exhibitors coming from all 5 continents, on show on the lower floor of the Spadolini Pavilion.

In the limelight, the beauty of differences. An exhibiting area reserved to a combination of craft traditions of faraway countries – unique and exclusive proposals, full of history and symbols.
