Two young tourists were verbally assaulted in Florence by a man shouting slogans against Israel, in an incident that was caught on video and has since spread online.
The episode, believed to have taken place last August, was filmed by the aggressor himself. The video only surfaced this week, when the Instagram page Welcome to Florence published it to denounce the attack.
In the footage, the man confronts the tourists — thought to be of Jewish origin — and shouts at them in English. He repeatedly yells “Shut up, free Palestine” while making threatening gestures as if he were about to strike them. The tourists do not react and eventually manage to back away before the situation turns violent. As they walk off, the man hurls further insults.
Police have confirmed they are carrying out checks, but for now few details are known about the incident.
