La Capannina di Franceschi, the iconic nightclub of Forte dei Marmi and a landmark of Italian nightlife since 1929, has a new owner: Giorgio Armani. After months of speculation, the fashion designer confirmed the acquisition, which will take effect from the summer season of 2026.
For Armani, who has long considered Forte dei Marmi a personal retreat, the purchase is more than a business move. It is a return to the place where, in the 1960s, he first met Sergio Galeotti, his lifelong friend and business partner. In a statement, Armani described the acquisition as an affectionate gesture and a tribute to Italian tradition.
La Capannina is one of the oldest and most celebrated clubs in the world still in activity. Founded in 1929 by Achille Franceschi and managed since 1977 by Gherardo and Carla Guidi, it has been at the center of Italian social life for nearly a century. Its stage and dance floor have welcomed generations of artists, writers, and celebrities.

From the 1960s onwards, the venue became a magnet for Italy’s cultural elite and international stars. Personalities such as Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and Ella Fitzgerald all passed through its doors, while Italian icons like Mina, Patty Pravo, Gino Paoli, and Gianni Morandi performed there. Writers and intellectuals including Alberto Moravia and Oriana Fallaci frequented its tables, adding to the aura of sophistication that made La Capannina a household name beyond Versilia.
The club also became synonymous with the dolce vita of the Tuscan coast. Summer after summer, it attracted entrepreneurs, politicians, and fashion figures, transforming Forte dei Marmi into a glamorous hub on par with the French Riviera.
With Armani at the helm, La Capannina is expected to continue blending tradition with contemporary style. While the exact plans have not yet been revealed, many see the acquisition as a sign that the legendary venue will remain a reference point for culture, music, and nightlife in Versilia and beyond.
