Franchi Stadium Renovation: Updated Timeline Shows 198-Day Delay

The renovation of the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence is facing a significant delay of 198 days, according to local reports. The project, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), is now scheduled for completion by October 31, 2026—a crucial date that aligns with the end of UEFA’s inspection tour of stadiums bidding to host Euro 2032.

Originally planned to begin on June 2, 2024, the works were expected to conclude by April 16, 2026. However, the updated timeline extends the construction period to 879 days, pushing completion to late October of the same year.

Key Renovation Milestones

By the new deadline, the main phases of the Franchi Stadium’s transformation must be completed, including:

• Demolitions and restorations

• Structural reinforcements for protected architectural elements, such as the historic canopy and the Maratona Tower

• New stands, foundation work for the stadium’s megacolumns, and expanded facilities for athletes, journalists, and VIPs

One exception to the completed renovations will be the East side of the Maratona, where the seating will remain unfinished.

A Historic Year for Fiorentina

The completion of the renovation will coincide with an important milestone: Fiorentina’s 100th anniversary in 2026. While delays have reshaped the project timeline, the updated schedule remains aligned with UEFA’s review process, keeping Florence’s bid for Euro 2032 in contention.

The renovation of the Franchi Stadium is a major project for the city, balancing historic preservation with modern upgrades to provide a state-of-the-art venue for future sporting events.
