Firefighters at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence

Firefighters rushed to Florence’s Uffizi gallery

FLORENCE, ITALY – Firefighters rushed to Florence’s Uffizi gallery on Thursday November 30, 2017 after being called by museum staff because smoke could be seen coming from a ceiling.

Firefighters said that the smoke was vapour from extinguishing material generated after the anti-fire system automatically kicked in.

Later, Uffizi Director Eike Schmidt said the alarm was caused by lighting hitting an electrical system.

The situation is under control and the museum is open as usual in these days.
