FLORENCE, ITALY – The glamorous world of fashion pays tribute to historic Florentine football on Monday June, 15, 2015. On the eve of the opening of fashion event Pitti Immagine Uomo, the Florence Centre for Italian Fashion (CFMI) and Pitti Immagine will present a tribute called One Night in Santa Croce.
Set in Piazza Santa Croce, the event will show the international fashion community a traditional football match between the region’s two most famous bodies. This will pit the Guelfi faction against the Ghibellines, recreating the historic game played by the Florentines on February 17th, 1530, in defiance of the troops of Charles V, who besieged the city.
The opening ceremony of the event is dedicated to the historical parade of the Florentine Republic, with 540 characters in period dresses. For the occasion, the character of the so-called Magnifico Messere will be presented by the photographer Aldo Fallai, a Florentine who has created a book with pictures of portraits and historical dresses of Florentine football in this period.
Piazza Santa Croce will be transformed into a football pitch, as happens every year, for the historic match. That will include 50 minutes played by a selection of the best players of the past years. The evening will conclude with two exclusive dinners: the first will be in the Cloister inside the Basilica of Santa Croce reserved for international guests; the second in Via Magliabechi will feature all participants in the parade with players, all together for the first time in history.
