FLORENCE, ITALY – Italian film actor Carlo Monni, 70, has died. The Florentine character actor played Roberto Benigni’s sidekick toward the beginning of the Academy Award-winning comedian’s career in the late 1970’s.

Monni appeared with Benigni in Televacca, a television parody series that took place in a barn, Berlinguer I Love You, a 1977 comedy film written and directed by Giuseppe Bertolucci, and many other Italian films.

Monni made over 300 theatre and film appearances over the course of his career. He was born in Campi Bisenzio, a little town in the North outskirt of Florence, where he has died yesterday May 19, 2013.
