The David at risk for high-speed train tunnel?

Michelangelo's David (Silmaril)The David of Michelangelo at risk for high-speed rail works? The CEO of Railways Mauro Moretti said that the famous statue located at the Galleria Accademia is not at risk, but some engineers have talked about potential risks following the work of the tunnel under Florence (on the line Naples-Milan).

The engineer Fernando De Simone proposes an “earthquake-save museum” for the famous sculpture. According to Moretti, there will be no problems for the work of tunnels that cross the city.  The exposure to vibration of the car and bus traffic in the area of via Ricasoli (near to Academy Gallery) is considered more impactful.

“The vibrations of local trains and trams are at the surface – replied the engineer De Simone – while TAV trains will make vibrations in the ground even at speeds of 100 km/h”. According to some engineers “these vibrations can affect groundwater and cause serious damage to the buildings above the excavation and then, for the domino effect, until the Accademia and Michelangelo’s David. Can the entire humanity take that risk? ”.
