It is necessary to upgrade the airport of Florence “in an integrated way along with the infrastructure of Tuscany. If not, the consequences would be serious for the entire airport complex in Tuscany.”
It is clear the statement of ENAC (National Civil Aviation) after the interviews of Gina Giani, CEO of SAT (Società Aeroporto Toscano), the management company of the airport of Pisa, who had assumed growth of the airport Galileo Galilei even if the new runway of the Amerigo Vespucci was not authorized by ENAC and the Regione Toscana.
“We are studying the possibility of the airports in Tuscany to place themselves strategically to the needs of aviation throughout the territory – ENAC said -. Pisa Airport is expected to have to handle 6 million in 2025 and 600 thousand passengers a year, but that alone is not able to satisfy the request of Tuscany. Compared to these needs is important that both Florence and Pisa have a strategic role in the aviation sector. From here the necessity to upgrade the Airport of Florence too. If this is not possible there would be serious difficulties for the entire airport complex Tuscan.”
