Read moreThe 2012 edition of Bandiere Blu awarded 246 beaches with the flag, which is 13 more than 2011. The beaches that received recognition in Tuscany include the area of Versilia, with Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta, Camaiore and Viareggio. The scores are awarded by Fee the Foundation for Environmental Education in collaboration with Enel Sole, and were awarded in Rome.

The city of Florence organizes many small events, but the best Carnival festivals are in the rest of Tuscany, especially in Viareggio, a seaside town situated on the Tuscany coast, an hour’s drive from Florence. Viareggio is a tourist seaside resort with beaches and hotels, famous for its Carnival.
