Fourteen Medici villas and gardens are included in the Unesco candidacy, which was sent to Unesco offices in Paris this year. Among the villas seeking World Heritage Status are Villa Careggi in Florence, where Lorenzo The Magnificent was born and died and which today is the property of the Tuscan Region.

Unesco chooses Florence for ICOMOS 2014
The city of Florence wins the next General Assembly of ICOMOS 2014, the most important international event aimed at the preservation of cultural heritage. The ICOMOS Executive Committee accepted the proposal made by the President of ICOMOS Italy, Maurizio Stefano, to host the big event in the city.
