The Medici Villas were summer residences, places to rest, go hunting and have leisure time. They were all painted in lunette form by Flemish painter Giusto (Iustus) Utens, entrusted by Ferdinando I de’ Medici at the end of the sixteenth century. Seventeen lunettes have been painted, 14 of which have been collected and hosted in the Museum of Florence as it was, so far.

Kerry Kennedy, President of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights (RFK Center), will lead a human rights delegation with distinguished international human rights advocates to Moroccan-controlled Western Sahara and to Sahrawi refugee camps in Algeria from August 24 to 31. The objective of the visit is to assess the human rights situation on the ground. Marialina Marcucci, president of the Florence based European section of the Foundation, will visit the territories too.

Firestorm on the hills, 32 hectares burned

There are 32 hectares of plants, vegetation and brush burned in the fire broke out yesterday afternoon in via Bolognese on the hills of Florence. Reclamation is still in progress, firefighters continued to work throughout the night and this morning thanks to volunteers.

Diane Howell, the 48 year old British tourist missing Aug. 17 while she was in Santa Croce with a group of 35 tourists was found in a bar in via Nazionale. About the reasons for his removal, the tourist, who would also have psychiatric problems, was unclear.
