Ryanair will operate 58 routes from Pisa’s Galileo Galilei Airport during the summer 2026 season, including two new destinations: Rabat in Morocco and Bratislava in Slovakia.
The Irish low-cost airline presented its summer schedule together with Toscana Aeroporti, the company managing Tuscany’s main airports. The programme will be supported primarily by the nine Ryanair aircraft based in Pisa, with more than 630 weekly flights planned from the Tuscan airport.
According to the airline, the expanded schedule confirms Pisa’s role as one of Ryanair’s key bases in Italy and a major gateway for travellers heading to Tuscany, including Florence, which is about an hour away by train or road.
Increased frequencies across Europe and the Mediterranean
Alongside the two new routes, Ryanair will increase the number of weekly flights on several existing connections. Among the destinations receiving additional frequencies are Brussels, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Malta, Manchester, Marrakech, Palma de Mallorca, Skiathos in Greece, Tirana, and Trapani–Marsala in Sicily.
The airline says the summer network is designed to support both inbound tourism and outbound travel for residents, particularly during the peak holiday months.
Debate over airport taxes
During the presentation, Ryanair also renewed its call for the Italian government and regional authorities to abolish the municipal surcharge applied to airline tickets, arguing that the tax increases operating costs and limits growth in passenger traffic.
The company noted that some Italian regions — including Abruzzo, Calabria and Friuli-Venezia Giulia — have already removed the surcharge, while Sicily and Emilia-Romagna have done so for smaller airports.
Ryanair claims that removing the tax nationwide could lead the airline to invest up to $4 billion in Italy, potentially adding 40 additional aircraft, around 20 million extra passengers per year, and more than 250 new routes, with an estimated 15,000 jobs supported.
Pisa’s role in Tuscany’s air connectivity
For Toscana Aeroporti, the expanded network strengthens the role of Pisa International Airport as the main international gateway for much of Tuscany.
Low-cost routes from Pisa have long been a significant driver of tourism flows to cities such as Florence, as well as to the Tuscan coast and countryside.
The summer schedule will come into effect with the start of the European aviation summer season in late March 2026
