Legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones will perform in Lucca on Tuesday, 28 July, as part of the Lucca Summer Festival, organisers have announced. The concert will take place in Piazza Napoleone, the historic square in the centre of the Tuscan city, and will be the artist’s only Italian date on his current tour.
Jones, now 85, has had a career spanning more than six decades and remains one of the most recognisable voices in popular music. Over the years he has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and built an international reputation for his powerful vocal style and energetic stage presence.
He rose to global fame in the 1960s, with a string of hits that remain closely associated with his name, including It’s Not Unusual, What’s New Pussycat?, Delilah and Green, Green Grass of Home. These songs helped define the sound of the era and established him as a leading figure in British pop and rhythm and blues.
Throughout his career, Jones has collaborated with a wide range of major artists, among them Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison, Dolly Parton and Ed Sheeran, demonstrating a musical versatility that has allowed him to move between genres and generations.
His more recent work has also received critical and commercial attention. The album Surrounded By Time, produced by Ethan Johns and released in 2021, made Jones the oldest male artist ever to reach number one on the UK official albums chart with a record of new material, surpassing a previous record held by Bob Dylan.
Jones has received numerous honours over the course of his career. In 2006, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, receiving the title of Sir for his services to music. He has also been recognised with several international awards, including Brit Awards, the Silver Clef Award, the Music Industry Trusts Award and the Hitmaker Award from the US Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The concert will be held in Piazza Napoleone in Lucca, about 70 kilometres west of Florence, a venue that hosts the main events of the Lucca Summer Festival each year.
Further details about ticket sales and timings are expected to be announced by festival organisers in the coming weeks.
