Sant’Ambrogio Market reopens after €1.9 million renovation

The Sant’Ambrogio Market in Florence has reopened following major renovation works worth about €1.9 million. The project focused on rebuilding and covering the outdoor stalls, which have now returned to their usual positions under the new canopies.

The reopening also included the launch of the Charity Corner, a small shop created by the traders’ consortium together with the social cooperative Made in Sipario Onlus. The space sells handmade crafts and gifts produced by the association’s Florentine workshop, which since 2011 has provided employment and training opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities or special needs.

The ceremony was attended by Florence mayor Sara Funaro and economic development councillor Jacopo Vicini. Funaro said the project was “a long-awaited result” for both stallholders and residents, and promised further improvements, including a mural on the building’s exterior.

Vicini described the market as “a piece of the city’s soul,” a place where daily life, traditions and community ties continue to thrive.
