The Monster of Florence Tops Netflix Worldwide

Netflix’s new Italian original The Monster of Florence has reached the top of the global charts, becoming the most-watched non-English-language show on the platform. According to Netflix’s latest figures, the series recorded 9.6 million views between October 20 and 26, ranking No. 1 in 44 countries and appearing in the Top 10 in 85 worldwide, including the United States.

It reached the top spot in countries including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

The four-episode limited series, launched on October 22, revisits one of Italy’s most disturbing and mysterious crime cases. Known as “the Monster of Florence,” the killer is believed to have committed eight double murders between the late 1960s and the mid-1980s, targeting couples parked in secluded areas around the Tuscan capital. The crimes, all committed with the same .22 caliber Beretta, have long fascinated Italians—and now, viewers around the world.

Filming took place in and around Florence in November 2023, highlighting many authentic locations across the city and the surrounding countryside. The production brings together director Stefano Sollima, screenwriter Leonardo Fasoli, and cinematographer Paolo Carnera, the same creative team behind Gomorrah and ZeroZeroZero.
